From Crisis to Connection

In past present and potentially future of our planet the shifting global climate periods and events have benefitted and caused disastrous events throughout the recorded history and the events surmised through scientific investigation. Now, society faces climate change that is threatening millions living in coastal regions, restricting biodiversity, and impacting the intensity of storms. The global community is becoming aware of these threats and the ways in which solutions to these problems need to be addressed, yet the science is settled. Action on behalf of the public is required. Yet, often through misleading information and distrust in the governmental organizations the apocalyptic phrasing appears to turn a metaphorical dark cloud on sustainability and the rationale behind it. There are many challenges facing efforts to reframe our current environmental protections in the public eye.
Through a philosophy of mindfulness, the pillars and facets of sustainability can be explored to create an individual connection to sustainability and environmental value in our dominant social paradigm. The complexities in today’s rhetoric require a historical approach to understand, shifting from the current anthropocentric approach to one that is more environmental and sustainable. The goal is to reflect on our interconnectedness in dialogue through a positive message of global systemic change. The barriers to changing the current political challenges in our national and global stages are significant, yet being tackled, and through this philosophy of mindfulness there are additional strides that can be made. When approaching future challenges, society’s individual connection towards the environment can be further understood in the mind, body, and soul. In a critical analysis of today’s language and identity surrounding sustainability, the intentions of the practice can be widely adopted into international environmental political practice. Mindfulness creates resiliency for sustainability which is demonstrated in the personal connections between profit and mind, body and planet, and the power spirit and people have to influence to change them. By comparing these pillars, a positive systemic framework emerged which could change society’s dominant rhetoric. Individual dialogue has a profound impact on creating small communities of concern around the dominant social paradigms, especially those surrounding the environment. These potential shifts are potentially a precautionary measure for the global community to solve massive problems in the environment through our economy to greater precautionary benefit in equitable decisions.

To influence a whole connection through sustainability and positivity, the framework necessary points to the references of environmental past and present which help and guide society to learn and shift towards the direction of mindful actions and the barriers that have been influenced already. To strengthen the message of sustainability the audience of potential change must address our current political rhetorical sphere and adversity in the face of our discourse surrounding the environment degradation.
